This is a very nasty piece of Malicious Software. If you are prompted by any web site to scan your machine for viruses or if a website claims to have found viruses on your machine, make a note of the website and then force your browser closed right away.
Introduced around November of 2008, this malware has been reported to attack social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and others. While it's payload does not seem to be overtly harmful to the host machine, it does install viral files, hijack browsers, generate application crashes, prevents the execution of anti-malware utilities and coerces the purchase of ineffectual software.
Because it so effectively blocks the system from being able to scan itself or access any utilities online, this particular piece of malware can be devastating. In many of the cases we have seen so far, the only effective method for getting rid of it has been to reformat the infected machines.
